In the Greenhouse


Went searching round the Greenhouse today and found this beauty a Purple thorn,also in there were Early Thorn,Dark archers,Yellow shell,Mother of Pearl,Single dotted Wave and Riband wave(non banded form).

Nice one Andy, I found a purple thorn up at Jerusalem Farm this lunchtime, was going to put it on the blog but ou seemed to have beaten me to it.

Are they particularly common as I have not seen one before.

Also do you know where I can get a 15w actinic bulb for a skinner trap? I got ours out of the box the other was broken.

Hi Chris,Purple thorn is a recent arrival to these parts about 1980 onwards.Its the first for me up here but they were seen at Copley woods and Hebden this year.These are second generation the first ones fly in April /may and are a bit larger.
Anglican lep supplys or there is a guy in sheffield who is very good.You will have to google it.They are pretty quick
