Winter Moths

With some poor weather on the way I thought it was a good night to check for winter moths in some well established local woods full of mature beech and oak. It was a good foray with most trees bearing moths. Over 100 winter moths counted (not sure whether November or Winter) One large birch having about 30. Two females and a scarce umber also recorded.

Thx andy. The pics are a bit fuzzy but taken without flash. used my usual compact on macro but moths illuminated with a torch. A lot to hold still in cold hands but happy with results. Ideal time to be out seems about 6.30 - 7.30
