Common Pug

This is the third Common Pug I've recorded this season. Each one has been quite different to the others. This  specimen was easy to ID. I hope the temperature picks up soon,.It seems that the moths are staying in sheltered places at the moment.

Surprise this morning when, what looked like the same moth as turned up for one day on May 11th - the Shark.

Nothing else other than plenty day time activity from Twenty-plume Moths around the Honeysuckle.

Red Admiral, Large White and a Speckled Wood in the garden this afternoon.

It landed on our door this afternoon. Possibly the same one as two days ago.

As it has a buff tint, I assumed it was a buff, until I checked online that is.

Two of these photos are far from perfect. They do for IDs, that all. I'm unable to carry the ladders. If I could, I certainly wouldn't attempt to climb them anyway. Hey ho, at least the sun is shining!

 Very little in the trap last few days with cool clear nights - just  a few this morning.

....then the rest were singles - Clouded-bordered Brindle (f combusta), Garden Carpet, Small Phoenix, Pale Tussock, Shuttle-shaped Dart, Common Marbled Carpet, Light-brown Apple-moth, Tachystola acroxantha, Brown House-moth......and that was it !

Also on High Brown Knoll today - lots of Common Heath mainly around the heather but the wind kept most other things out of sight other than Green Hairstreaks (20+) and then mostly around sheltered areas of bilberry. Its an area c 1400 ft but fabulous up there on a day like today.

1 X Small Phoenix this morning.

I'm posting this photo for those who may not be aware of this. There are two main forms of the moth. The one above, is the typical form. It has an unbroken dark band across the center. The other main form has brown and white lines connecting the top and bottom of the light coloured wing patterns.

Speckled Wood. I think this is a female, because Thomas and Lewington say that first brood females have larger yellow patches than males.

 A big surprise this morning with what I knew was a new moth for me.

I thought at first, date and location, it would likely be Chamomile Shark however after checking the literature and some facts it made me think again as Shark apparently favours Honeysuckle and Red Campion, both present in the garden, the former currently flowering in profusion.

With thanks to CS and CHF assisting with identification as a Shark.

Also this morning one each White-pinion Spotted, Bee Moth, Heart and Dart, Small Phoenix and as yet an unidentified micro.

 I think this moth is a Spruce Carpet. If so, it's a first for me. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
