This morning there were still at least 7 Haworth's Minor on Ragwort at the northern end of the reservoir along with 1 Angle Shades
Still quite a few bees on the ragwort as well seeking nectar on the few remaining flowers from summer.

Waiting for 'meat and tati pie' about half-five so had a look round the garden till it was ready....
Found this Beautiful Plume flying about - it was hard to keep track of in poor light then it landed on the window frame.

October 6th

One Small Copper and a Diamond Backed Moth ( a migrant ) today at Ringstone, 5 Red Admiral , 8 Small Tortoisehell and 1 Speckled Wood at Northowram

This morning the sunshine started to get out and it was quite warm
I managed 5 Haworth's Minor still on Ragwort and this moth below which looked slightly smaller than them. ? Not identified yet if anyone can help..wondered about Ear Moth but am probably way off the mark !

 

Also along the drain and the res'r embankment

5+ Black Darters with another 2 in cop

1 unidentified large blueish Dragonfly

1 Sexton Beetle

3 Red Admirals

12+ Small Tortoiseshells

5 Silver Y's

And a large very white butterfly that took me by surprise when I disturbed it along the track. I thought it was like a Swallowtail Moth by it's size and similar shape only it was pure white. It flew off over the moor and I lost it in the distance. Was it just a fresh Large White (?) though there did not appear to be any black on it at all - baffled again !!! It was away too fast for the camera.

 

 

 

Micro Moth Ypsolopha sequella

Heres a pic of the Ypsolopha sequella approx 11mm,

which feeds on Field Maple and Sycamore,that  came to the light on National Moth Night at Hardcastle Crags.I persevered with a Stacking Technique of taking a series of photos at different Focal Points,a challenging idea with a living Moth ! This pic was the result of 17 pics each one manually focussed and stacked together in order to get the complete Depth of Field from front to back,unfortunately there is still slight movement of the outer part of the anntenae,this was the best of 3 series of pics of this Beautiful Micro Moth,which was released after.Camera Canon 40D,60mm Canon Macro Lens with a 13mm Extension Tube .Regards Brian Leecy.

Whiteholme Reservoir

Along the drain to Whiteholme this afternoon I turned up 8 more Haworth's Minor
7 on Ragwort and 1 on a Thistle

Also 2 Silver Y were disturbed along the catchwater drain
and 5 or more Black Darter dragonflies along the drain
10+ Small Tortoiseshell along the reservoir embanklment

Haworths Minor update....

I had 44 + today at Fly flats feeding on Ragwort very close to the reservoir  some very tatty individuals but some quite smart ones too. A few Black Darter ,1 Ruby Tiger larvae , 1 Silver Y , 1 Small Tortoiseshell and a large moth over the moor which was unidentifiable..............

This morning I initially came across 4 moths (which I couldn't identify at the time). They were feeding on Ragwort at the Oxenhope end of Fly Flats. Then I checked every Ragwort on the banking and counted 36 though I think there were more....Tricky getting photo's in the bright sunshine but after checking a phone photo with Andy...... .Haworth's Minor ?

 

Also up there this morning 16c, hot sunshine and flat calm I saw 9 Red Admirals and 2 Small Tortoiseshells heading across the water >SW with 1 Small Copper along the embankment.

Also 7 Black Darters with 2 in cop - around the ponds, the end of the res'r and across the wooden bridges.

Not had any moths at all in the trap this week - in fact there have been none flying about the garden though on the way back from Oldham last night there were quite a few moths seen in the headlights over Buckstones and Scammonden Road.

I did find this very nice Angle Shades on the Raspberry canes near the trap last night (still there this morning) and an unidentified caterpillar on the pavings.

Yesterday afternoon we went in search of Wall's in the usual spots around Pepper Hill but nothing doing on that score though it was a perfectly calm and hot sunny afternoon

Also we had a large flying beetle we thought was a bee at first in flight being black and with large orange panels on the wing - we lost it in the grass and only got  a very blurred photo.
