Chris found this caterpillar down at Cromwell Bottom earlier today, any idea what it might be.

Chris, I have several possibles but can you tell me on what plant it was found and approx size ? Its always harder with early instar larva as most of the illustratations one can access are of the later instars when the larva can change quite dramatically from its early appearance. I will email Reg Fry and get his opinion on this.

First apologies to Andy, i have not been around to post the photo, so thanks for posting it for me.

I found it on a hawthorn on Tag Loop near the weir. The caterpillar was only about 1.5cm long at the most, but had a lovely reddy-brown almost purple colour. it also has a hump on the back.

I wonder if this could be Brimstone Moth (Opisthograptis luteolata).
