This blog has been set up so local people can find out what is going on in the world of Moths, Butterflys and dragonflies in Calderdale.If you have any ID problems put up your photo's and someone will try and help you to id it.

The palps theory is unreliable, some say you can tell from the larger tooth like projections in Svensson's, but the sure-fire way to tell is to check the flush of orange/red on the underside of the hindwing.
Agree,Id have gone for copper,but when there this worn it has to be Copper Underwing agg...underwing is a good id feature but its best to have at least two,before deciding it to species..always tricky
