It must have been cold last night, the Common Footman, Marbled Beauty and Eudonia from my 7th July morning post are still here this morning.

Carr Hall Lane, Stainland 7th July UPDATED 8th July

Charlie and I went mothing down Carr Hall Lane. Some nice moths about:

Foxglove Pug
Cinnabar Caterpillars
Eudonia lacustrata - quite a few on walls

Straw Dot
Ectoedemia decentella TBC (Really, it's a Denisia similella)
Momphidae sp. leaf miner. (Will confirm later) Is Mompha raschkiella.

Also 1 photo here no ID yet. (Now have ID, see below).

Seen but not photographed, several Nettle Taps.

Tiny brown, daylight-flying moths round Ash trees. These were Pseudargyratoza conwagana.

The Eudonia I saw kindly moved lower down out of the sun. It's

I found this tucked in a crack by the door just now. It's a hard one for me, I settled for Edonia truncicolella. I could be way out.

I took a very careful look at the photo on the 7th July and now am certain it IS Eudonia truncicolella

Cunnery Wood meadow

Had 45 mins in the meadow above the pond at Cunnery Wood this afternoon. Thought it might be worth a check out to see what butterflies were around.

Trap from Tuesday 4th July - Copley

Got a new trap so was keen to try it out, a sucessful night with a few I had not seen before (and quite a lot of micros that I cannot identify and a few Waves that i am having trouble with, so any help would be appreciated).

Lots of butterfly activity on the brambles flowers today
Red admiral, speckled wood, ringlet and meadow brown all about.


Also lots of Large Yellow Underwing disturbed when mowing this morning.

Stainland 5th July.

Three moths today. Actually there are four near the house. The fourth is a Eudonia sp. It's too high for me to reach or ID. First a Marbled Beauty - Bryophila domestica.

I have spent over two hours trying to ID the next, It has to be common, but having search three moth books, (twice over) and the Internet, I'm just frustrated with not finding in. If someone could ID it for me, I'd be very grateful. Here are two photos. It is about 1.3 cm tip to tail.

ID needed.

This one left me confused. It's most likely Blastobasis lacticolella.

I did wonder if it might be the pale form of Blastobasis adustella.

In Norfolk I saw my first Cinnabar - Tyria jacobaeae caterpillar, Anne found them, there were a great many by the roadside. Also. I saw a LOT of Small Skipper butterflies and Small and Large Tortoiseshell butterflies. To my knowledge, up until then, I've only ever seen one Large Tortoiseshell. There were more Red Admirals than I have ever seen before and a few Comas. They were all a buddleia, in the garden of the cottage we had rented. I didn't think this was the place to show them.

By far and as usual the commonest moth of the evening was the LY Underwing 20+ by far these powerful moths were predictably seen " Biffing"  about. There were also quantities of fairly fresh Dark Arches

Swales Moor - Ringby Lane - and Lee Mount

Had a wander up the lane to the top field this morning. It was very light drizzle but on the way up the lane I was surprised to disturb around a dozen Ringlet butterfly's all looking as if they were freshly emerged.

On the top was 1 Ringlet, 1 Meadow Brown and managed to find 5 of these below which I think must be Narrow-bordered Five-spot Burnet Moths. Found quite a few there last year on a much brighter day.

Earlier in the day from the overnight trap was this very worn looking individual.

Common Footman, Eilema lurideola.

 Hi, Back from Norfolk. This morning there is a Common Footman - Eilema lurideola on the door. As they fly from July to August, this one is right on cue.

Found this little beauty on the garage wall this morning , this is the first time I have recorded one in Northowram..................and the Beautiful Hook Tip[below) was on the outside of the trap...
