Lee Mount - 8th June

I wanted to check these two top ones - both in the trap on Friday morning. The nearest I could get was Ingrailed Clay - but they are certainly unlike the typical one I caught earlier in the week which is the lower one below. I gather they can be very variable !

Ingrailed Clay from 1st June

Garden Carpet, Xanthorhoe fluctuata.

One moth today, the weather seems to have kept them away from the door.

Lee Mount - 2nd June

A quieter night but still some good moths...
Common Swift x 4
Peppered Moth x 3 together
Sallow (I think) Kitten the same moth I guess as the night previously
Common Marbled Carpet x 2
Miller x 1
Brimstone Moth x 1
Buff-tip x 1 (only the second one for here) a beauty !
 One of three Peppered Moths

 Miller

Buff-tip

Lee Mount - 1st June

26 species and nearly 50 moths in total but still going through the photos.

Queries first ?
First 3 photo's below (never seen one of these before) - is this Sallow Kitten (c16 mm wing length) rather than Poplar Kitten ?

Not sure which Wave this is (a confusing bunch but don't think it's Riband Wave) wing length c14mm) - think maybe Common White Wave

Think this must be an Ingrailed Cley

And 3 different Pugs below all about the same Brindled Pug size. Wonder if the lower one of the three could be Mottled Pug with the distinct marks beyond the central spot.

Lee Mount - 31st May

23 species total 47 moths.
Too many to list just now !
Query with this one - think maybe Rustic Shoulder-knot ?

Some more queries to follow from the next few days - thanks for any help !

Scalloped Hazel x 1
Peppered Moth x 1
Common Swift x 1
Tachystola acroxantha x 3

Just need to check this one out (above and below - it is the same moth probably different exposure) which I think is the darker form of Clouded-bordered Brindle ?

Lee Mount - 25th May

A busy few hours after 10 pm with 47 moths identified from 19 species - including some 'gems' which I later found in the trap this morning.
Please, as ever, correct any errors with identification !

 Green Silver-lines

 Pseudargyrotoza conwagana

 Cabbage Moth

 Shuttle-shaped Dart ?
I did struggle with this one with wings open as they look more obvious with the wings closed !

 Spectacle

The big surprise for here ! This was one moth I definitely was not expecting having only seen one before on Norland Moor with Andy, Colin and Glen last summer. At first I thought maybe a Phoenix type, it wouldn't keep still though I managed a few shots before it was off. It was only later, on checking the books, I realised what it was.

 Beautiful Snout

Lee Mount - 24th May

This moth was, as far as I can recall, a new one for here. It was so white with the 2 obvious black spots on the edge of the forewing. It just gave me time to get a couple of shots before it was off..

 White-pinion Spotted

Swales Moor 25th May

It's a struggle keeping up with 'blogging' when the weather has been so good. Who want's to be on the computer inside when it's fine. (or even when it's wet for that matter)!!

Wall Brown - Ringby Lane seems to be  a spot for them, though they are still scarce even there and take some finding. Yesterday turned up trumps with three found including a pair 'in cop' and also a single Silver Y Moth on the top.

Wall Brown

We also checked the area around the top of Claremount and Pepper Hill today (26th) but without success though we have seen them in that area in recent years. Think the fresh >SE wind was  a factor today as even though the weather was 'scorching' we did not see many butterflies as they were probably keeping low down in the, as yet, unmown meadows.
