The form tutti has the two vertical brassy bands on the forewing joined forming an “H-shape However the valid separate species named Diachrysia stenochrysis also has the two vertical brassy bands on the forewing joined “H-shape”. It is thought that the "H" needs to be at least 3 millimetres wide for it to be considered stenochrysis

Moths with the 2 bands joined clearly and distinctly to create an "H"... have been referred to as f. juncta

Moths refererable to juncta are regarded BY SOME AUTHORS as a seperate species, called Diachrysia tutti

Examples of tutti in which the cross-bar of the H is at least 3 mm wide MAY BE REFERABLE to the Eastern Palearctic species stenochrysis

The intermediates I think need strictly speaking needs DNA to establish there validity

A hectic couple of hours after nearly abandoning it with drizzle threatening. It stayed dry, just about, and a few rewards came forth ! Especially the Antler Moth.

When I emptied the trap this morning a local House Sparrow came in, surprising me as it whizzed past my head after a moth - but it missed thank goodness ! This follows on from the previous night when a bat came in after a moth - it was so quick I don't know whether it got a meal or not !!

Ogden golf course

This morning - not a lot but scattered about were 15+ Ringlet butterfly's and 5 Meadow Browns along with 1 Yellow-shell Moth and quite a few unidentified micro's !

Savile Park

From a friend we saw yesterday who passed on his moth trap to me last year. He was sweeping leaves up in his garden last week (Tuesday 5th July) and disturbed, in the leaf litter, a Lime Hawkmoth - A M Earnshaw.
Many thanks to Mark for not only passing on his trap and this record but also for his enthusiasm and knowledge on Lepidoptera gained over a good number of years.

Ogden

An hour at the lower end of the golf course this afternoon. It was pretty overcast though the sun came out for about quarter of an hour and c20 Ringlets and 3 or more Meadow Browns appeared along with a single Small Copper in  a patch of billberry, heather, juncus and moorland grasses etc
Also 2 Yellow Shell Moths

It's also a good spot for Fox Moth caterpillars later on but I've never seen an adult there - yet .

It looked a half decent night but it was very quiet until everything turned up just before midnight.
A couple to check ?

 I think this one could be a Twin-spot Plume (but never id'd one before so might be wrong !)

 

 

Baffled by this one and been trawling the books and can't seem to get it. I didn't get chance to measure it - (medium size! maybe 16 - 20mm) I was wondering about the white dots on the lower outer edge of the forewing and the dark dots higher up though this seems to fit a few species.
Now wondering if it could be between Dusky Brocade or Confused

Swales Moor

Ringby Lane, on the top late morning I came across 2 of these and wonder if they are likely to be Narrow-bordered Five-spot Burnet rather than the allegedly commoner Six-spot Burnet or the Five-spot which I gather is a more southerly species ?

Castle Carr

I had a walk on part of Warley Moor above and to the east of Castle Carr this morning, a beautiful day to be out on the moor. I came across this little gem but haven't identified it yet. It got quite attached to my binoculars and didn't seem to want to depart from them !!

From last night - still struggling with these Y's  !
I've been trying to sort these two out on and off today and can't reach a conclusion as they look so different ! Perhaps the shots aren't just good enough.....so any help would be appreciated.
I kept going back to Beautiful Golden Y but am not fully convinced

Also the three shots below are the same moth in different poses - a Flame I suspect c16mm wing length
