Butterfly's to the fore....
Starting off with a Comma landing on the car windscreen as we parked up.
Then we started finding Small Coppers along the roadside verges and then further on in the fields alongside the gravel track past Upper Green Edge Farm. The afternoon got even better as we found more butterfly's on the last remnants of Ragwort and Hawkbit's (?? low growing like dandelions with bright yellow flowers) freshly flowering in the close cropped pasture and then at the end of Castle Carr Road, a clump of Ivy with it's flowers just 'buzzing' with insects.

Superb , I had 18 Small Coppers today at Northowram. The first 8 looked tatty and were feeding low on ragwort, As I got the the larger patches of Ragwort I found 2 very freshly emerged adults ' in cop ' this must be the 4th generation this year....!!! also a Peacock at Walshaw dean plantation . 1 Small Copper reported from Cold edge dams ..Pete Smith (ta)
