Hi all,found this 1811 acleris hyemana while gardening today in Tod,quite a few types of heather,which prob accounts for it,as its usually moorland/heathland species,apparently.

Great night at meadows edge,target species streak,2 red swordgrass,autumn green carpet,feathered thorn,2 blairs shoulder knot,18 red green carpet,6 yellow line quaker,3 silver y,being the pick of 12 species of macros and a phyllo sp.

Quite poor up here to actinic,conditions looked great at 1st till it cleared for a while with the bright moon ,it clouded over again later,but only 7 moths,best heath rustic,ear sp.this mothings a strange game ! ps not a single micro either !

Pink Barred Sallow,03 09 09

Found a pink barred sallow,i know its common,but for quite a strikingly coloured moth ,they can be hard to spot on appropriately coloured leaves,and its no coincidence as soon as the first leaves start turning to their autumnal colours,they appear in larger numbers.all the best Bri.

Sallow Kitten larva,30 07 09

Hi all,heres a pic of larva at 9mm ,its interesting to note quite a few preferred birch leaves rather than goat willow,when given the choice,its fascinating to see how they feed at this stage ,just eating small sections off the leaf surface rather than bite right through it,saw some amazing moths in guernsey,ie orache,marbled green,coronet,jersey tiger,privet hawk,rosy footman,among the pick.all the best Bri

Cat i d ?

Ros and me found this larva yesterday ,08 06 09,on the underside of turkey oak we think,it was about 13 mm long,at first sight thought sawfly,but it didnt react like all the usual sawfly species,i e curling its body outwards ! any info would be appreciated,all the best bri.

Hi all, Found this larva at ramsden wood clough walsden 05 06 09,in a rocky gorge,its 31 mm long,and was on a grass stem,between patches of woodsage, in daylight,nearest i can find is black rustic on cat i d link,but it still dosnt look quite right,and larval stage is a bit behind for its size,i suppose bad weather in May might have something to do with it,or is it just another colour form of a common moth ! any info would be appreciated.all the best bri.

Hi all,tried a couple of hours at langfield last night,9 brown silver lines,2 dark brocade,3 glaucous shears,pic included,and 3 diamond back moths,rain got a bit heavy,so packed it in. 1st records of g shears for me .Paul,puss moth larva is amazing.all the best bri.

epiblema species

Harry beaumont has checked epiblema sp on 14 05 09, and confirms it is epiblema scutulana ,he says on size it is quite small for this species,but feeding on common knapweed could account for smaller moths .I thank harry for checking it out.Paul,had a quick check on woodsage,at ramsden wood today,found what looked like bitten through stems,like in yours and ians pics,but no larva as yet,will have a proper look when i get chance,interestingly found quite a few of the black larva spun up same as Andys.will keep you posted.all the best bri.

Hi all,found 2 epiblema sp,14 05 09,i gather there are 3 very similar ,these were on common knapweed which might indicate cirsiana,or is it gen det the only sure way to id them.superb patterning and texture.can anyone recommend a decent sweep net for heather ?all the best bri.
