Clueless in Shibden Valley





These must be common, even so the mottled one looks interesting. Naturally, I don't know what they are but I have discovered a reasonable website I will start using.

Hi Nigel,

I'll have a go at them and say, from top to bottom they are - Gatekeeper, Small Heath and Northern Spinach(s).

Thanks Charly. Interestingly, I did find the first two subsequently easily enough on the aforementioned website but the Northern Spinach wasn't listed. I'll certainly look deeper into this as I have never heard nor seen it before.

You didn't say which the website is. If it was a butterfly orientated site you won't find the Northern Spinach because it's a (common) moth.
