Birds nests anyone?

The Calderdale Bird Conservation Group have cleaned out the 40+ nestboxes in Hardcastle Crags today, there was a very high occupancy rate and we have removed all used nests. In the past we passed these on to Paul Talbot for him to study the contents, apparently there are moths that use nests and if I remember correctly some interesting records came from these. Is there anyone currently in the area that might be interested in these nests? I have them all individually bagged up for anyone that wants them.

Andy/all

Get some old plastic sweet jars from any sweetshop (Dobsons in Elland give em away), these are usually given free to get rid of them.

Give them a good clean out to get rid of any sugar residue and then pop a wad of kitchen roll in the bottom add your nesting material and cover the top with pop socks or old tights. If you stick it in the garage it will do fine. All you need to do is look in the jar every few days and see whats emerged.

You get Diptera, Coleoptera and mainly tindae in moths emerging. Just one word of warning the nests usually have lots of fleas so take care not to open in the house :-))
