I passed through Scar wood yesterday and couldn't even find the Hornbeam(s)- some naturalist I am! Found a sackful of leafmines though :-)

Charly...They are big trees in my experience and always (I think) planted by man in Yorkshire. I only have ever seen two and both were not in close proximity to other trees. It might be worth giving Jill Lucas a call has she took me to one tree in Kirklees and she knows where most are in Calderdale being a botanist. The one in Wellhome Park is dead easy to find.
