golden ringed dragonfly green withens res 13th august 2009

a very nice suprise to find this cracking dragon! it was hunting over the north drain before getting carried away by the strong wind and landing in the bracken.
to make things better it was my first ever of this species

Brilliant photo and a great local record.

Stunning picture and by the look of it a really good record - very topical for the blog too in the light of recent post on this species (15 August) by Ian and Tina.

Sue and I watched one of these egg laying in a stream running into the sea near our home in N Wales. I have been meing to ask someone at the Dragonfly Soc if they breed successfully so near to sea water. This was had only a low shingle bank between the high tide line and the sea. The Dragonlfy simply flew around seemingly dropping eggs at random right at the stream edge by dipping its abodomen just under the water surface as it flew around.
