news from todmorden


Hi all,found this caloptilia syringella on a clump of iris in a small pond,there is some lilacs nearby,which i think is one of foodplants,i know they are common,but very striking.all the best bri.

Do you have any tricks for getting these micros to pose Brian as yours looks well relaxed. I've just spent half the morning trying to get two phyllonorycters to stay still, I had to make do with one resting on the bathroom wall :-)

I just leave em to settle down on their own accord mostly,or threaten them with the deep freeze ! i place them on leaf/bark etc,with container over top and leave in shady spot.tons of patience and dosnt always work,i used to photograph tropical fish with film,now that was a challenge ! im still messing with this hacked on lens,finding it a bit frustrating,at moment. all the best bri.

Hi Brian
You should find mines of this species on Lilac at the moment. The other foodplant is Ash and I most often found them on Ash saplings
